Dr. Shane Wesener
Uncovering Nature's Hidden Bio Solutions
With over 15 years of experience across industrial microbiology, natural products discovery, and leading-edge strain engineering initiatives, Dr. Shane Wesener now lends his valuable expertise as a Research Scientist and Director of Research and Development at Bio-Technical Resources. He focuses on revealing obscured natural mechanisms to drive sustainable agriculture, health, and industrial solutions.Shane's passion for studying unseen microbiological processes traces back to his youth growing up on a family dairy farm in Cleveland, Wisconsin. He was actively involved in 4H and FFA programs focused on dairy judging and showing, which sparked an interest in genetic mapping and microbiology. His early inspirations on the farm combined with curiosities uncovered during his graduate research continue fueling Shane's drive to elucidate nature’s hidden bioactive compounds and mechanisms.Shane received his undergraduate degree - a BS in Biology/Biological Sciences from St. Norbert College, as well as his Master’s degree and PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His graduate research included engineering microbial processes for developing new anticancer therapies.Shane has contributed to advancing innovations ranging from engineered enzymes and microbial biopesticides to anticancer therapies and insect virulence factors. He continues to provide trusted guidance applying decades of hands-on mastery in areas like strain selections, media optimizations, and data-backed troubleshooting. When not elucidating new microbial insights, Shane enjoys community building projects, exploring Wisconsin's natural parks, and staying active through volleyball.
